BLOUNT COUNTY FIRE & EMS ASSOCIATION MINUTES OF AUGUST 1, 2019 MEETING

MT HIGH FIRE DEPARTMENT

 

 

The meeting was called to order by Chairman Jon Head. Chief Miller gave the invocation. The following member organizations were represented: Allgood, Bangor, Blount County Rescue Squad, Blountsville, Brooksville, Cleveland, Dallas-Selfville, Holly Springs, Locust Fork, Mt. High, Murphree Valley, Nectar, Oneonta, Pine Mountain, Remlap, Ricetown, Rosa, Royal, Snead, St. Mountain, Summit, Susan Moore and West Blount. EMA, Forestry, Special Ops, BREMSS, Blount EMS, Law Enforcement, Red Cross, Alabama Fire College and VOAD were also represented. 47 people signed the attendance sheets.

 

GUESTS Tommy Liverett of Dry Tech Fire Services sponsored the meal and introduced his employees, Bill Stevens and Ryan Vidischak. Shane Wilson of Mt. High Fire Department spoke of his business which is tornado outdoor warning siren repairs.

 

Chairman Head asked for the approval of the minutes of the July meeting. Motion by Assistant Chief Benson, seconded by Co-Captain Baril, and carried by voice vote. The Financial Report was approved by a motion from Chief A. Booth, seconded by Chief Reed, and carried by voice vote.

 

COMMITTEE REPORTS

 

CHAIRMAN – Chairman Jon Head asked that we remember two firefighter families that are sending sons off to military duty.  Austin Ledbetter is reporting to the Army while Ashton Brooks is reporting to the Air Force. Jon asked that if any department has EMS transport complaints to please submit them in writing to the AAC. Vice-Chairman Ken Edwards attended the AAVFD Conference and reports that the cancer bill passed legislation that provides rates for career, certified and non-certified firefighters.

The next AFC District ll meeting will be in Walker County.

 

 

EMA – Director Don Roybal reported that Fuelman for the month of July was at 132% of monthly budgets. The ICS 300/400 class planned for October is waiting on Fire College approval.

COMMUNICATIONS – No report.

 

TRAINING – No report.

 

FIRE PREVENTION – The Firefighter Academy will be held again at Southeastern High School in 2020.

 

EXPLORER POST – No report.

 

FORESTRY – Forester Matt Tucker reported that the Wildland Fire training class has enough people to schedule.  Signed rosters for firefighter tags should be submitted to Matt.

 

SPECIAL OPS – Chief Kenny Booth asked that any department contact him that wants to train and be involved on any Special Ops teams.


ST. VINCENTS BLOUNT – STV-Blount wants to know if anyone has problems or questions concerning hospital issues, please contact them.

 

BREMSS – Brian Gober advised that the Con-Ed schedule for next year is available.

 

BLOUNT EMS – Operations Manager Weslie Powell acknowledged a good turnout for the sports medicine training. Joyce Pass is a new Advanced EMT. October through December CEUs schedule is available.

 

LAW ENFORCEMENT – No report.

 

STATE FIRE MARSHALL – No report.

 

CORONER – No report.

 

DISTRICT ATTORNEY – No report.

 

LIFESAVER – No report. AIR-EVAC – No report. RAMS – No report.

ALABAMA FIRE COLLEGE – Chief Willis announced that there will be a memorial ceremony at the Fire College on October 5.  Also, check the AFC website for the training schedule.

 

RED CROSS – Debra Dolph asked that if you are interested in partnering with Red Cross on fire prevention education as you do any smoke alarm installations to please let her know.

 

VOAD – Vice-Chairman Mike Mitchell reported that the next VOAD meeting will be August 13 at EMA.

 

GOOD & WELFARE – No report.

 

OLD BUSINESS:

Ÿ The Rules Committee conducted a lengthy discussion of their findings and received various input from the membership. After suggesting modifications to some of the Rules of Operation regarding meeting attendance, a motion to close the discussion was offered by Chief Reed with a second from Chief Gilbert and passed by voice vote. There were no official changes to any attendance policies or the Rules of Operation.


NEW BUSINESS:

Ÿ The Blount County Fair will open on September 10 and run through September 14. To effectively operate the Association booth, it is requested that 16 people be present per night.

Ÿ The Covered Bridge Festival will be in October and 4 departments are needed, two AM and two PM.

Ÿ Chief Ledbetter has initiated a smoke alarm installation contest.

Ÿ A Nominating Committee was formed for the purpose of officer elections as well as Firefighter of the Year, EMT of the Year and Dispatcher of the Year.

Ÿ Mike Mitchell won the TV donated by Tommy Liverett of Dry Tech Fire Services. Mike immediately donated the TV for use in the Amateur Radio Room in the EMA Operations Center.

 

 

The next meeting will be September 5 at STV-Blount. The meal will be at 6:30 sponsored by STV-Blount.
