BLOUNT COUNTY FIRE & EMS ASSOCIATION

MINUTES OF JUNE 4, 2015 MEETING

RICKWOOD CAVERNS STATE PARK

The meeting was called to order by Chairman Jon Head. Ralph Mitchell gave the invocation. The following member organizations were represented: Bangor, Blountsville, Brooksville, Cleveland, Dallas-Selfville, Holly Springs, Mt. High, Murphree Valley, Nectar, Oneonta, Pine Mountain, Remlap, Ricetown, Rosa, Royal, Snead, St. Mountain, Summit, Susan Moore and West Blount. 9·1·1, Forestry, Special Ops, BREMSS, Blount EMS, Law Enforcement and the District Attorney Office were also represented. 9·1·1 Director Caleb Branch, Supervisor Neal Brooks and Board Member Chief Bob Sanford were present.

GUESTS – Tommy Liverett of DEC Construction and Eric Smith of SERVPRO were both present and co-sponsored the meal. Each discussed details of their business and services. Blount County District 2 Commissioner Carthal Self and District 4 Commissioner Gary Strikland both thanked all departments for their service to the citizens of Blount County. Eric Bradley of the Alabama Fire College spoke about INVEST Coin Program and offered any available assistance.

Chairman Head asked for the approval of the minutes of the May meeting. Motion by Chief Willis, seconded by Assistant Chief Mike Benson, and carried by voice vote. The Financial Report was approved by a motion from Chief Netherton, seconded by Chief Glass, and carried by voice vote.

COMMITTEE REPORTS

CHAIRMAN Chairman Jon Head described the upcoming Firefighter Camp to be held June 15-17 for 8th - 12th graders in conjunction with the Blount County Education Foundation. Attendance/work schedules for the June Fling in Oneonta on June 6 were reviewed.

EMA – Don and Doug were both out of the County with Don attending CSX Training in Atlanta. He will be bringing back information to share and hopes to set up a training session with CSX in Blount County in the future.

9·1·1/COMMUNICATIONS – Director Caleb Branch reported that Communication classes are going well and detailed some information concerning the new NIXLE system. Last week a teenage male went missing and within four minutes of NIXLE notification two calls were made to 911 locating the victim.

TRAINING Rosa has begun their 160 class and ST Mtn will be hosting the APCO Saf-T Zone training program.

FIRE PREVENTION – Joe Ray Daily asked for ideas on the Fair booth.

FORESTRY Forestry Project Specialist Terry Helms distributed Forestry grant checks.

SPECIAL OPS – Chief Willis had no report.

ST. VINCENTS BLOUNT – Sheena Martin discussed the chest pain accreditation for St. Vincent's system. She also discussed and distributed forms for the Closed Point of Dispensing Plan (POD) regarding supplying medication to First Responders following a terrorist attack.

BREMSS – John Reed presented information on pending legislation that would allow law enforcement officers to carry Naloxone for opiate overdoses. John also discussed the Psychiatric Task Force created by area hospitals to deal with psychiatric diversion.

Blount EMS – Tammy says if you need her, call her.

AMED – No report.

LAW ENFORCEMENT – SGT Investigator Fred Cochran advised that he has completed some arson training.

CORONER No report.

DISTRICT ATTORNEY – District Attorney Pamela Casey reported that the Wills for Heroes will resume later this year.

LIFESAVER – No report.

AIR-EVAC – No report.

RED CROSS – No report.

GOOD & WELFARE – $400 was received from the “Pass the Hat” at the may meeting.

OLD BUSINESS:

l The Committee appointed to review and revise the apparatus inspection checklist made a recommendation to use the new ISO form for pumpers. No additional changes were recommended and no draft was submitted.

l All Chiefs were reminded to submit to EMA your choice of who was to attend the SE Chiefs Conference.

NEW BUSINESS:

l A motion was made by Chief Reed to send Vice-Chairman Ken Edwards as a representative from the Association to attend the AAVFD Conference in Tuscaloosa July 24-25. Second offered from Chief Frye and passed by voice vote.

The next meeting will be July 9 at St. Mtn Station 1. The meal will be at 6:30 sponsored by Advanced Rescue Solutions.
